Travel Fears

Welcome back - this week we're talking about the reality of fear, and the role it plays in being a traveler.

Because I've been solo traveling for a decade now, there have been many times people have said things to me like -

“good for you, but I would be too scared to go alone…” or “even navigating an airport solo stresses me out, let alone another country…” or “I want to travel like you, but I get so anxious leaving home… I could never…”

Over the years, I've realized that when people see me exploring the world with a smile on my face, they tend to assume that means I'm not experiencing any of the worry or fear that plagues their mind when they consider doing the same.

But the truth is, every single time before I embark on an adventure, no matter how how much of a dream the trip may be, fear, worry, and anxiety inevitably creep in.

I start to think - I love my bed. I don't want to leave my pets, my family, my friends.
I'm overpacked. I'm underprepared. I'm extremely uneasy about the whole thing.
What if it all goes wrong? Maybe I just shouldn't go.

Ultimately though, I grab my passport and hit the road regardless every 👏 time 👏, because fear lies - and I don't let it into the driver's seat.
You shouldn't either.

While fear is a passenger we can't remove from the vehicle, we do get to choose who is behind the wheel.

So trust yourself.
Life is short, the world is big. You shouldn't let fear drive either.

xoxo - kell
