Introduction
Welcome to Wandering Wednesdays!
My name is Kelly, and every Wednesday I'm going to take you wandering with me - because travel is my greatest passion and also my favorite way to spend money. But truthfully, every dollar I've spent (on travel) has been the best investment I have ever made.
So my question for you is: if you know there's a way to enrich your life and enhance your understanding of the world, why would you wait until retirement to do it?
I am going to be your new travel bestie… the girl in your corner cheering for you to book the trip, pack your bags, and go now. Don't save any of it for later.
You're only ever a flight away from where you began. You have literally nothing to lose and everything to gain. The money will return, but your time will not.
And our health is not something to take for granted. So go now. Go before age makes it harder to enjoy with ease and with energy.
And while we're at it, let's change the narrative around wandering.
Wandering has this weird connotation, or stigma, that it's like you're lost or you're irresponsible if you're just wandering around. But if you're rushing from point A to point B, there's nothing about that that is going to change your life.
You have to be fully present, and really immerse yourself in your travel in order for it to be a worthy investment.
So when I use the word wandering, I don't mean with no sense of direction. I mean being fully present and open to everything that you may encounter along the way, stopping to smell the roses in every sense of the metaphor.
To sum up this introductory blog post, I would like to end with two quotes, one being anonymous that says -
“Travel is the only thing we buy that makes us richer.”
In my 29 years of life so far, there has been nothing that has proven to be more true than that.
And lastly, finally - if you worry about the world, if you worry about your communities, if you want the best for both yourself and all your loved ones… remember what Mark Twain said:
“ Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
So go, book the flight, and let's get wandering. I'm here with you every step of the way.
xoxo - kell
